This is a state senate campaign for the future of Connecticut. It is a campaign for:
Universal health care. We do not have to wait for the U. S. to do something about
this when we have the wealth and the will to institute universal health care here in
Connecticut.
Protecting the planet. We cannot afford to delay implementation of green technology,
sustainable energy, and environmental protection. Affordable housing and public transportation can no
longer be thought of as just quality-of-life issues, but environmental issues as well.
Ethics. An official's breach of public trust is unacceptable and unforgiveable. We need
the strongest possible rules to deter all governmental breaches of ethics.
Sustainable tax policy. Tax fads and gimmicks are not going to stimulate the economy. In my
experience as a tax lawyer, the more complicated the tax law gets, the more inequitable it becomes.
Excessive property taxes penalize the middle class, and burden the urban centers on which our suburbs
depend for industry, health care, and culture.
Support for education. For our state to realize its economic potential we need to have
a workforce that is educated, and Connecticut needs a greater commitment to education at all levels.
In the eight years since I changed my primary career from private law practice to university faculty,
I have developed a profound understanding of our educational needs.
This November, the voters will define the direction they want the country and Connecticut to take.
It is my hope that the direction will be towards a long-term plan that reflects our values as a people.
